Game #3 - Fired Up!

Game #3 for Critter Force tonight, and it couldn't have been more girly, the purple team playing the pink team.  Holyn was really funny during the opening drive.  One of her teammates kicked the ball and it ricocheted off the other team and landed right in Holyn's arms.  Knowing that holding or touching the ball with your hands is a big no-no in soccer, she yells out "OH, Oh my God" and drops the ball.  Both team's parents got a laugh out of that one!  Holyn got right back in the game and scored a goal.  She even helped guard the goal when the other team threatened to score.

Our cheerleader also kept spirit strong during her time on the bench, and lead her fellow teammates.  I personally liked the chant spelling out P-U-R-P-L-E, and Fire Up (which hopefully loads on the blog!)

Game #2 - No Guts, No Glory

The Critter Force Soccer Team played their second game tonight.  Holyn started out strong, but suddenly came down with a bad stomach ache that sidelined her for a while.  Lant checked on our pro as did the coach during the first half and things didn't look good for a return.

Much to our surprise, after halftime and a few sips of water, #3 returned to the field. She got right back to business and scored her own goal!

Things got even better when we looked across the field and saw Holyn leading cheers during her time on the bench!  Thankfully the Critters came out on top (well, according to the girls in the purple jerseys).

Game #1 - An Innie or An Outtie?

Max had his first baseball game tonight and its apparent it will be another season like the Bad News Bears. His coach can barely throw the ball over the plate (underhanded) and each kid swings at any pitch that comes near.  Thank God they have the 5 runs and or 3 outs rule in effect.  While waiting to take his turn at bat, Lant and I overhear the conversations going on at the bench.  First, Max shows all the kids how to make fart sounds while using your armpit and hand (and then they all try it).  Wish I got a picture of that!  Next we hear "So, do you got an innie or an outtie" (and no, they were not talking about what inning they were in or how many outs they had)!  I am proud to say that at both at bats, Max hit the ball solid.  He overran first base once and got tagged out, but the second time got to run the bases and bounce over home plate.  Should be interesting... I'll keep you posted!

Singing with Feeling

Holyn had her school music program last night and did a fantastic job.  After watching the 4th and 5th grades perform for what seemed like an hour, the 2nd and 3rd grades took the stage. She was so proud of her outfit and made sure we planned it out days in advance (we think she looked pretty cute too).  Wonder who she gets that from?  We were pleased to see the songs had dance moves to accompany the lyrics, and as you can see. Holyn performed them dramatically.  Holyn also had a small speaking part, but wouldn't reveal what she said until she performed (what an artist).  After her big finish (I wish I could get the videos to load) Lant told her she sang with feeling (this is particularly funny because on Max's last report card he didn't get great marks on only one thing... "singing with feeling" in music class).  Way to go Holyn!

Game #1 - I LOVE SOCCER!

The Critter Force Team started their soccer season tonight with a win against A&W (although officially they don't keep score)!  Holyn was iffy for a start after all her foot issues.  She hasn't been thrilled with my (and the doctor's) orders to keep off the foot and was mad at me this morning for not allowing her to participate in gym class.  After school she told me she didn't do gym, but did admit to playing kick ball at recess.  Her foot wasn't swollen, so our very own Critter #3 stormed the field.

This year the rules are a bit different.  The teams play 4 on 4 and each player is not allowed to score two times in a row.  Holyn is one of the oldest and tallest kids on her team, so she has a slight advantage over the other girls.  That and black and hot pink kicks also help your attitude!

Holyn grabbed a goal on her first attempt (can you find her kicking the ball in?) and got to wear the celebratory white jersey over her uniform until someone else on the team scored. One kid on the opposite team got close to scoring a goal and tried to tip it in with her hands.

Lant yelled from the sidelines "Go Holyn, get in there" to which Holyn yelled back "I'm trying to Dad".  She almost scored again later, and overall played a fantastic game.
After the "good game" high fives with the other team and snack time with her group, Holyn professed "I LOVE Soccer!"

Hurry, I NEED a cinnamon roll!

At bedtime last night, Max had giggled his front tooth almost out.  He went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and began yelling "Mom, I need a cinnamon roll"!  When I got there he was sitting on the toilet trying to pull his tooth out. I joined him for the event but everytime I got close to the tooth he would yell OUCH and we would have to stop.  The thing was dangling there by the last thread, but somehow would not break loose on its own.  We really thought he would swallow it over night. So as Max gave up to go to bed, I bumped it forward with my finger and knocked it free.  He gave me the dirtiest look, but alas the tooth was out (apparently he was going to pull it out on his own someday or it was going to walk out on its own).
At first I wasn't really sure why Max needed me to get him a cinnamon roll at bedtime.  Then it hit us, the last time he lost a tooth was on Super Bowl Sunday while eating a cinnamon roll.  It worked once, so he thought why not eat something yummy and loose a tooth!
After all the excitement, Max ran down to the basement to grab a couple lizards and set them next to the tooth box.  He later added the Darth Vader alarm clock and stuffed animal to the line up.  I asked him why we needed all this around his tooth and he replied "so no one steals my tooth and uses it to get stuff from the toothfairy for themself!"  Of course, why didn't I think of that?  The toys are now known as the "Tooth Protection Crew".  And by the way, they did their job!
Lant informed me that yesterday was also Star Wars Day.  Yes because "May the 4th" be with you!

Hard to keep a good girl down!

About 3-4 weeks ago Miss Holyn decided to jump off something on the playground and hurt her left foot.  I wrote it off for about the first week or two as a bruised heel, until on Spring Break it swelled up and she couldn't walk. So after a doctor visit, x-rays, a week of resting it and a visit to an ortho doctor...
she has a slight tear in the Plantar Fascia (not Plantar Fascitis).  Luckily, with more rest, less running and some time it will heal on its own (in about 3 months that is).  Soccer should be fun this year!
